The White Elephant in the Room
Because of where I come from and where I live, the rooms I walk into are mostly white, and smack dab in the middle of the room is an invisible white elephant.
Even though you can’t see it, everyone in the room walks around it as if it were visible.
The giant white elephant has a lot of gravity, everyone and everything in the room is affected by it; it pulls people into its orbit.
The giant white elephant is no respecter of persons, no one escapes its influence, no matter how hard they try.
The giant white elephant has all this influence partly because people are in denial of its existence.
Everyone in the room tries to avoid the giant white elephant, but no matter what they do they bump into it, they get knocked over by it sometimes, they stub there toes.
The more the giant white Elephant is ignored, the bigger it gets, so as time goes by it takes up more and more room, in the room.
Because of the presence of this giant white elephant, I experience people avoiding me out of fear, people ignoring me to remain comfortable, sometimes I even feel invisible, because the giant white elephant dictates people's emotions.
Most of the rooms I walk into are filled with white people and in the middle of the room sits a giant invisible, omnipresent, all powerful “giant white elephant.”
